MultiLAwa is an international, interdisciplinary and intersectorial research and training network on plurilingualism and multilingualism as key drivers of social cohesion and inclusion by promoting Language Awareness – the explicit and implicit knowledge of language(s) and language use – across individual, institutional and societal levels. MultiLAwa’s overarching research goal is for an in-depth analysis to build upon the interconnections between Language Awareness, pluri-/multilingualism and digitality, extending previous research in the field of language learning / teaching, and complementing it with research on language practices and discourses, language policy, as well as lexicography and terminology.

1: Discourses on Language Awareness and Pluri-/Multilingualism in Digital Society: A Meta-pragmatic Analysis
2: Language Ideologies in Industry, Science and Politics
3: Multilingual digital practices and digital literacy: Designing and using digital applications in the workplace and higher education
4: Stereotyped language related to gender, race and ethnicity in digital dictionaries and thesauri
5: Multilingual gender fairness in AI-generated texts
6: Language policy on the European level: Language Awareness and digitality from a discourse analytical approach
7: Language policies in France, Germany and Luxembourg: A Multidimensional Comparative Analysis of Institutional Actors and Critical Multilingual Language Awareness
8: Promoting culture and identity-building in digital contexts: Focus on indigenous regional and minority languages
9: Conception of a specialised multilingual multimedia lexicographic information system for tourism language
10: Dataset and technical design of specialised multilingual lexicographic information systems for circular economy
11: Enhancing Language Awareness in Fintech: Terminology and Harmonisation towards Cross-Cultural Communication
12: Students’ language learning motivation from a Critical Language Awareness perspective
13: Migration languages in foreign language education in the era of GenAI
14: Language Awareness and communicative ability through exposure: data-driven approaches with corpora and GenAI
All candidates are expected to
– have the potential to conduct research of excellent quality, as demonstrated by initial academic work such as the master’s thesis, and – if applicable – presentations at conferences, awareness-raising activities or publications;
– be interested in working in a multilingual, interdisciplinary and international research environment;
– have excellent communication skills in German and English (at least B2);
– be willing to undertake international research secondments and travel.
We offer:
- a comprehensive, interactive and international doctoral training programme;

- a Personal Career Development Plan (PCDP) to prepare the Doctoral Candidates (DCs) for their future careers;
- a local individual training at universities in accordance with the PCDP description;
- an attractive remuneration package in accordance with the MSCA-DN programme regulations for DCs.
Salary:
The successful candidates will receive a full-time employment contract for 36 months as per Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) regulations for Doctoral Candidates.
The salary consists of a monthly living allowance (EUR 4010 – gross value – apply country correction coefficient), a monthly mobility allowance (EUR 710), and, if applicable, a monthly family allowance (EUR 660). A long-term leave allowance and a special needs allowance are offered if applicable.
