Type of employment: Part time; Full-time
Duration of contract: 3 Jahre
Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector – Federal Government (TVöD-Bund)
What to expect
The Visual Computing and Engineering department develops interactive visualization and modeling methods to collaboratively make digital twins and complex technical systems experientially accessible – from the early design phase to the analysis of large scientific datasets in immersive 3D environments.
The Extended Reality group is involved in research, development and evaluation of new human machine interfaces in extended reality environments.
In your new role, you will research and develop modern computer vision methods for capturing and interpreting environments. Using advanced computer vision algorithms and AI models, you will analyze and interpret complex information and develop solutions that can be applied in various areas, for example, to support detection of forest fire spread. The methods you develop could, among other things, detect vegetation areas and potential evacuation routes, providing valuable assistance. Another focus of your work will be researching and developing methods for 6D pose estimation. This involves determining the position and orientation of objects in space by adapting existing algorithms and developing new approaches. In this way, you enable a precise understanding of complex engineering environments. For example, you may detect drone parts or components and estimate their position and orientation. This is crucial for accurately projecting digital information onto the physical environment, such as in augmented reality (AR) applications. In addition, you will actively contribute to the publication and dissemination of research results, ensuring that your work is used both scientifically and practically.
Your tasks
- Research and develop modern computer vision methods
- Analyze and interpret complex environmental data using AI algorithms
- Develop solutions to support practical applications, e.g., forest fire detection
- Research and develop methods for 6D pose estimation and precise object localization
- Scientific evaluation and publication of research results in scientific journals, presentation at international conferences, and transfer of the developed technologies to industrial applications
You will work independently on the tasks mentioned and liaise with the other team members and the group leader. We give you the freedom and opportunity to pursue your own ideas and drive forward new research topics. We offer a challenging working environment in which family friendliness and your health are our top priority.
Your profile
- Completed academic university degree (Master’s / University Diploma) in Computer Science, Media Informatics or other study programs relevant to the position
- Experience in the field of computer vision
- Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning
- Good programming skills in Python and C++
- Knowledge of computer graphics
- High level of initiative, ability to work in a team, creativity and motivation to work independently on scientific projects
