The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing” (SCM) department is looking for an engineer to join its “Magnet Electrical Systems” (SCM-MES) group in the field of
Electrical / Automation Engineering” (all genders)

for coordination, execution and monitoring of the installation as well as commissioning of electronic protection systems for superconducting FAIR components. Within the framework of the FAIR project, the corresponding electronic equipment must be qualified and prepared for use in the future accelerator facility as well as our magnet test benches. Your active participation will significantly contribute to the successful launch of the FAIR facility.
Your tasks:
- System expert and person responsible for system integration into the accelerator facility as well as into our magnet test benches.
- Provisioning of components and technical infrastructure for magnet protection. This includes project planning, procurement, configuration as well as site acceptance tests.
- Maintaining operational readiness and adapting existing electronic assemblies as well as our test bench for magnet protection electronics.
- Planning and design of future replacement systems for FAIR magnet protection.
- Supporting test bench teams in the verification of superconducting FAIR modules as well as troubleshooting and test data analysis.
- Operation, guidance and control of electrical work as an electrically qualified person.
Your skills:
- Degree in electrical/automation engineering (M.Sc./M.Eng.) or comparable qualification and ideally work experience with complex electronic systems.
- Profound knowledge in electrical measurement, sensor technology, test data acquisition via Ethernet as well as installation and commissioning of associated equipment.
- Technical understanding and hands-on experience in merging electronic equipment into electrical systems as well as know-how in EMC-compatible system assembly.
- A broad knowledge of analogue/digital circuitry and electronic components as well as a practical approach to design, simulation, test and production of electronic devices using established EDA tools.
- Experience in implementation of FPGA-based electronics including the associated software design environment would be an asset.
- Programming skills with Python and C/C++.
- Familiarity with MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications.
- Excellent spoken and written English as well as German skills.
- Independent cooperative way of working, social skills, proactivity, sense of responsibility and team spirit.

The position is time limited to 30.09.2030. Salary is as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund), effective at GSI.
