DLR’s Responsive Space Cluster Competence Competence Centre (RSC³) in Trauen is a unique research facility in Germany that addresses in a holistic way the topic of Responsive Space. This exciting field of research deals with the question of how to respond faster, more flexibly and securely in space with the goal of increasing the overall resilience of critical infrastructures in space. To this end, innovative concepts and technologies are analyzed, developed and demonstrated at the RSC³. 

 

What to expect

In the Launch Segment department, we deal with the design and development of rapidly deployable space transport systems and the associated launch facilities and ground infrastructure, with the design and further development of rapidly deployable, flexible rocket propulsion systems and with the experimental validation of rocket systems and the associated operation of test facilities. We are a dynamic and motivated team and look forward to receiving your application!

  

Your tasks

Your main task is the theoretical and experimental analysis of combustion processes in solid propellant rocket engines and the realization of the gained knowledge in form of suitable software solutions for the prediction of regression behaviour.

 

In detail, this includes the following tasks:

  • analysis of detailed combustion processes in solid propellant rocket engines
  • development of simulation methods to predict the combustion of solid propellants
  • design of solid propellant rocket engines
  • collaboration in the scientific operation of test facilities for rocket engines
  • use of monitoring technology for rocket tests, e.g. by drone
  • independent processing and management of sub-work packages in research projects

  

Your profile

  • completed scientific university degree (Master) in engineering (e.g. aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science) or  natural sciences (e.g. chemistry) or another degree programme relevant to the position
  • knowledge and experience in the field of programming and / or software development (C++ / Python)
  • very good written and spoken German skills (at least C1)
  • good written and spoken English skills
  • physical and emotional resilience to work in experimental operations

  

Remuneration will be paid up to pay group 13 TVöD depending on qualifications and tasks assigned.
