The French‐German Research Institute of Saint‐Louis (ISL) situated in the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland is an internationally renowned research institute belonging to a global industrial and economic network.
At the ISL, we perform fundamental and applied research in the field of pulsed power and its applications on world-class level. In the community, the term pulsed power is used for the generation and application of electrical power pulses in the range of GW and more. Such power levels are rare in civil engineering. They are needed for instance for inertial confinement fusion.
One of the applications of pulsed power we study at our institute is electromagnetic acceleration. We have several installations allowing to accelerate macroscopic masses to more than 3000 m/s. It goes without saying that research in this field is quite fascinating. In Europe, the installations at our institute are unique.

For immediate placement, we are currently looking for an Engineer in the field of electromagnetic acceleration (m/f/d).
Your new tasks and responsibilities – challenging and future-oriented
- You will be member of a research group consisting of people with different backgrounds working at the front line of experimental research
- You will support scientific investigations e.g. by carrying out experiments and being responsible for the data acquisition
- You will be trained to use our sophisticated metrology and participate in further developing it
- You will work on international projects and participate in documentation of results
Your qualifications – solid and appropriate
- You hold a completed scientific degree (Master) in Electrical Engineering or comparable fields
- Knowledge in one of the following fields is advantageous: metrology, pulsed power or EMC
- You are passionate about participating in scientific projects and technical developments
- Good English is advantageous, but not decisive: your skills will improve quickly. A good command of French and/or German would be an advantage
- Ability to communicate and to work effectively as part of a team, ability to take initiatives and to exercise flexibility, good organisational skills
