The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing(SCM) department is looking for a 

 

Scientific-Technical Associate (all genders) 

Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering 

Reference: 26.48-6351 

 

to strengthen its “Magnet Electrical Systems” (SCM-MES) group as an expert in superconducting FAIR accelerator components and associated protection systems. As part of the FAIR project, corresponding infrastructure has to be planned, validated and brought into the future accelerator facility including its main machines SIS100 as well as Super-FRS. Your scientific knowledge in guiding complex processes and your experienced approach in testing, installation and commissioning will be a significant contribution to the successful launch of FAIR. 

 

Your tasks: 

  • Scientific expertise and analysis in the field of superconducting FAIR components and current leads. 
  • Electrical quality assurance and maintaining test operation at superconducting FAIR modules. 
  • Validation of the FAIR Quench Detection System as well as technical coordination of implementation and commissioning. 
  • Work package responsibility within the scope of “SIS100 Quench Detection” and “SIS100 Electrical Systems”. 
  • Conception of advanced test methods for electrical integrity at superconducting modules as well as future magnet protection systems. 
  • Perspective intention: scientific and administrative management of the SCM-MES group, initially as a deputy. 

 

Your skills: 

  • Degree with a doctorate, ideally in Applied Physics and/or Electrical Engineering or comparable qualification. 
  • Knowledge in the field of superconducting magnets technology as well as superconducting components protection. 
  • Proficiency in simulation and calculation of characteristic parameters for magnet protection as well as post-mortem quench data analysis. 
  • Experience in electrical measurement, sensor technology, analogue/digital signal processing and test data acquisition via Ethernet as well as data processing and data synchronization within linked systems. 
  • Know-how in EMC-compliant assembly of electrical systems would be a plus. 
  • Programming skills with Python and C/C++. 
  • Familiarity with MS-Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS-Office applications. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English as well as German skills. 
  • Independent cooperative working style, sense of responsibility and team spirit.
