Zusammen mit dem Institut für Methodik der Fernerkundung bildet es das Earth Observation Center EOC, das Kompetenzzentrum für Erdbeobachtung in Deutschland.
The German Remote Sensing Data Center is located in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich and Neustrelitz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Together with the Institute for Remote Sensing Methodology, it forms the Earth Observation Center EOC, the competence centre for Earth Observation in Germany.
What awaits you:
The Department Land Surface Dynamics, located in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, is the research department of the German Remote Sensing Data Center, which investigates and quantifies the global change of the Earth’s land surface and addresses socially relevant issues in the following six subject areas: settlement areas, forest ecosystems, agroecosystems, coastal and river catchment areas, polar and mountain regions, as well as the analyses of terrain models.
Are you studying for a Master’s degree, have no other Master’s degree yet, and have to complete a compulsory internship as part of your Master’s programme?
Have you taken a detailed look at the department’s website with its six teams / thematic focus areas (see above) and are you interested in one or at most two of the thematic areas mentioned?
Are you aware that an internship also requires you to spend one day a week (or 4-5 days/month) at our campus in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich?
Then we offer you the opportunity to complete your compulsory internship as part of your Master’s degree programme.
Your tasks
- Analysing remote sensing data and geodata with ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine, the terrabyte processing platform and creating maps, graphics and illustrations
- Analysing remote sensing data and geodata as well as light programming tasks with Python, R or Matlab, as well as Tensorflow, Pytorch or similar if knowledge is available
- Web research, literature research and the creation of appealing PowerPoint presentations
- Contribution to national field campaigns and validation tasks
- Contribution to project presentations, project reports and the development of new topics
Your profile
- Ongoing Master’s studies in geosciences (geography, geoecology, geomatics, geoinformatics) with a focus on remote sensing
- Knowledge of ArcGIS, QGIS or other GIS applications
- Initial experience in analysing remote sensing data with ENVI, Erdas Imagine, ArcGIS, QGIS, Python or the Google Earth Engine
- A focus interest in 1-2 of the above 6 research topics
- Motivation and own initiative
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Good written and spoken English skills and solid (first) written and spoken German skills (at least A2)
