ABOUT US

Founded in 2008 as the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Heart and Lung Research, our graduate school built a strong legacy of excellence in training and discovery. After 12 successful years, ongoing innovation within our faculty and curriculum inspired a new name in 2020 — the IMPRS for Molecular Organ Biology (IMPRS-MOB) — reflecting the breadth and depth of our scientific mission.

Hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim, and conducted in close collaboration with Goethe University Frankfurt and Justus Liebig University Gießen, IMPRS-MOB offers a world-class doctoral training program in the life sciences.

OUR MISSION

At IMPRS-MOB, our mission is to provide outstanding training for the next generation of scientists — equipping them to integrate molecular, cellular, and whole-organism perspectives in understanding complex biological systems. We prepare our graduates to address some of the most important scientific challenges of the future.

We bring together world-class experts from across the globe in a vibrant, collaborative research environment, supported by state-of-the-art service facilities in imaging, proteomics, bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, and the generation of transgenic models. This unique combination of expertise, resources, and mentorship empowers our doctoral researchers to push the boundaries of discovery and innovation in molecular organ biology.

WHAT WE OFFER

We are committed to training, mentoring, and inspiring talented young researchers across disciplines. Our structured curriculum spans all cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying physiological and pathophysiological processes in organ systems. While we have strong expertise in the vascular and cardiopulmonary systems, our research priorities extend to the metabolic and immune systems as well as tumor biology — offering doctoral students a rich and diverse scientific landscape to explore.

IMPRS-MOB provides:

  • An international and structured PhD program taught in English
  • Friendly and multidisciplinary environment
  • Excellent career opportunities and working conditions
  • State-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge research projects
  • Feedback, guidance and mentorship by an individual Thesis Advisory Committee
