Master Mechanical Engineering or similar (f/m/x)

The Institute of Vehicle Concepts is looking for a research associate for the "Vehicle Architectures and Lightweight Design Concepts" department in the areas of structural optimization and automation of the material card calibration process for crash simulations.

The research activity includes the simulation of novel vehicle structures and the development of numerical methods and process chains required for the automated design process of vehicle structures. There is a particular focus on the design of crash-relevant components for new vehicle architectures.

Furthermore, a material laboratory for automated material card generation using artificial intelligence has to be expanded in order to: dynamically characterize different joining technologies and automatically identify numerical descriptions for crash simulations. Hence, the digitalization of the material laboratory must be further improved for the purpose of processing the measurement data using artificial intelligence.

  • completed Master's degree or diploma, preferably in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or a comparable field of study.
  • in-depth knowledge of lightweight road vehicle design
  • ability to independently organize and work on project-specific content
  • knowledge of German
  • experience in numerical simulation (e.g. LsDyna)
  • programming skills (e.g. Python)
  • good English skills, sufficient to write scientific publications independently
  • knowledge in the field of optimization and the field of material testing is advantageous
  • interest in a doctoral degree is advantageous
