Research Engineer - Optoelectronics and Laser Engineer for Photonics System Technologies (f/m/d)

  • Design, optimize and prototype complex and highly integrated opto-electronics devices and solid-state and fibre-based Laser sources. 
  • Design optical setups and test benches and perform optics and laser-oriented test and experiments focused on state-of-the-art solid state and fibre-laser products and subassemblies. 
  • Participate in the concept and requirements definition, new technology assessments, and evaluation of alternative technical solutions.  
  • Evaluate laser and laser component performance at the component and system levels via both modelling and hands-on experimental methods.
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology, practices and concepts in solid state and fibre lasers, optical MEMS, fibre optic technology and communication. 
  • Analyse and present test data; discuss results with technical staff, external partners, and customers. 
  • Work collaboratively with project teams in the preparation of engineering inputs, cost estimates and schedules for proposals.  

  • Master’s degree in Electronic, Engineering or Physics (with Optoelectronic specialization). 
  • Knowledge in signal conditioning and processing/data analysis.
  • Knowledge in designing high speed Optoelectronics subsystems (interrogators, multiplexers, optical transmitter and receivers) for telecommunication (SDH/SONET, PON, etc). 
  • Knowledge in designing Solid-State and Erbium Doped Fibre Laser and Amplifier. 
  • Knowledge in using standard laboratory optical equipment (OTDR, Power Meter, OSA, Oscilloscope, fibre splicing machine, etc). 
  • Knowledge of space industry protocols and Assembly Integration and Testing (AIT) concepts desirable.  
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: Multiphysics Simulations, Phython, Matlab and Simulink programming languages. 
  • Experience in one or more of the following: analogue and mixed signal electronic design and FPGA hardware.
  • Self-starter; organized, systematic mindset to perform in-depth investigation. 
  • Multidisciplinary attitude and team working capability.
  • Knowledge of Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • English Language (written and spoken): B1 or higher.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) starting in occupational group E. We offer competitive salaries and additional benefits based on your experience and qualifications. For this position, your minimum monthly salary starts with EUR 3.520, paid 14 times a year.
