You will design, develop and evaluate automation functions for U-Shift vehicles. The focus here is on automated maneuvering of a driveboard for capsule changing, e.g., in a depot. For this purpose, functions such as capsule pickup in the drive board are to be implemented on the vehicle side, and automated driving maneuvers are to be realized on the infrastructure side using edge computing.

The overall goal is the safe operation of automated vehicle fleets via a control center, the approach known as 'Managed Automated Driving'. Theoretical work such as model development goes hand in hand with practical driving trials and tests. You will be part of an interdisciplinary development team consisting of DLR colleagues as well as research and industry partners, who will work together to further develop U-Shift and its automation. For further details on the U-Shift vehicle concept see www.u-shift.de.

Main focus of your tasks:

  • function development of automation (Sense, Plan, Act) with known/new modules.
  • selection, evaluation and integration of perception modules in the vehicle & infrastructure
  • realization of vehicle control using novel edge computing approaches
  • planning and execution of drive tests with U-Shift together with the U-Shift team
  • collaboration on overall integration and safety concepts together with research and industry partners

Your qualifications:

  • completed scientific university studies (Master's degree or comparable degree) in the field of mechatronics, electrical engineering, computer science, automotive engineering, or comparable discipline
  • proven experience in control engineering with MatLab Simulink
  • experience in programming with Python or comparable programming languages
  • structured and independent working style
  • good knowledge of German and English
  • ideally, you will have advanced, demonstrated hands-on experience in at least two of the following areas: Control
  • Engineering, Kinematics Simulation, Automotive Engineering, Automotive ECUs, EDGE Applications, Image Processing

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x).Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
