Head (m/f/x) of Facility for Natural Product Isolation and Structure Elucidation

Head (m/f/x) of Facility for Natural Product Isolation and Structure Elucidation

Applications are invited for a full-time scientist position to head a facility for microbial natural product isolation and structure elucidation at the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology in Marburg, Germany. We are seeking a highly motivated, science-driven, and collaborative scientist (m/f/x) with experience in preparative natural product isolation, identification, and structure elucidation by mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

You will be responsible to establish and direct a state-of-the-art natural product isolation and structure elucidation facility (HPLC, SFC, NMR), including personnel. This includes the general management of the facility with daily and long-term organization, instrument maintenance, routine analysis, and method development, as well as data acquisition and interpretation. You will be expected to develop, innovate, and implement new advances in technology and bioinformatics relevant to natural product isolation and structure elucidation to support and drive research at our institute. In addition, resources will be available to follow independent research.

The position requires a PhD degree and ideally also postdoctoral experience or equivalent in natural product isolation and structure elucidation. Qualifications include hands-on experience with preparative chromatography including HPLC-MS and NMR. We seek a good communicator who is able to interact with scientists from a variety of backgrounds, is team-oriented, self-motivated, and enjoys working in a highly collaborative and fast-evolving research environment.

The position is initially limited to two years but can be extended depending on performance.

The MPI for Terrestrial Microbiology consists of four departments and several department independent research groups and offers a stimulating and interdisciplinary research environment with approximately 280 people working at the institute. The daily language at the institute is English.

As an equal opportunity employer, the Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities. We therefore actively encourage individuals with disabilities to apply. We also seek to increase the percentage of female employees in areas where they are underrepresented. Qualified women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Further information can be obtained from Dr. Helge Bode (helge.bode@mpi-marburg.mpg.de).

Applications should be sent as a single pdf file by e-mail to jobs-NP-isolation@mpi-marburg.de.

Please include your CV, names, and e-mail addresses of three academic referees, statements of your previous research, and future research goals including career goals (no more than two A4 pages for each).
