Technical University Darmstadt is an autonomous university with broad research excellence, an interdisciplinary profile, and a focus on engineering sciences. The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is among the largest departments and is regularly ranked within the top group of its peers in Germany and Europe.
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at Technical University Darmstadt invites applications for an
Assistant Professorship (W2 with Tenure Track) Technical Systems for the Human-Machine Interface
initially for a period of 6 years.
We are looking for an internationally outstanding researcher in an early career phase with excellent contributions and promising
potential in research on technical systems for the Human-Machine-Interface with applications in one or more of the following areas:
Human Assistance (e.g., exoskeletons, cobots, telepresence systems, continuum robotics, soft robotics, micro- and nanorobotics , brain-computer interfaces, haptic systems, wearables, monitoring systems, neurosensors, neuroelectronics).
Medicine and Rehabilitation (e.g., medical robotics, rehabilitation, protheses, orthoses, endoscopy, microsurgery, teleoperation systems, neuroprostheses, active implants, neurostimulation).
Transport Systems (e.g., autonomous vehicles, driver assistance systems, teleoperation of vehicles).
The potential for close collaboration with representatives of the department is expected. Moreover, the position should be able to connect to related disciplines (mechanical engineering, computer science, biology and medicine) and within the Rhein-Main-University network.
The professorship operates independently in terms of subject matter, without being subject to directives, and represents a self- contained field of expertise.
The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to §70 HessHG (Hessian Higher Education Act). Accordingly, the duration of the academic activity during and after the doctorate should generally not exceed nine years or the scientific activity after the doctorate four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.
The assistant professorship is initially limited to six years and comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half year before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. After a successful probationary phase of six years, the immediate transition to a tenured professorship W2 is granted, for which a W3 professorship can be applied for after a further five years. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of Technical University Darmstadt. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.
Technical University Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Technical University Darmstadt is certified as a family-friendly university and offers a dual career program.
Further enquiries concerning the position may be addressed to the head of the selection committee, Prof. Rolf Findeisen (rolf.findeisen@iat.tudarmstadt.de ; phone number: +49 6151/16-25200).
Applications should be in English and include a cover letter with research and teaching statements, a curriculum vitae including the academic career path, a research and teaching concept including a sketch of possible collaborations within the department and the university, a list of publications, copies of relevant diplomas and certificates and an overview of previous teaching experiences (including evaluation results). Applications should be sent preferably as a single PDF via email to: dekanat@etit.tu-darmstadt.de with the subject: “Application Hardware for Human-Machine Interface” or to: Technical University Darmstadt, Deanery Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Application Hardware for Human-Machine Interface, Fraunhoferstrasse 4 D-64283 Darmstadt, Germany.
