Master Thesis – Printed batteries for wearable healthcare applications (f/m/d)

Befristet, Vollzeit · VILLACH

YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

Point of care devices like glucose monitors have become omnipresent in everyday life, yet diseases like kidney disease can go unnoticed. At SAL, we aim to design unobtrusive wearable systems that can detect kidney disease from sweat biomarkers. To improve the user experience and ensure portability, a thin and flexible battery is required to deliver energy and ensure the uninterrupted functionality of sensors and sweat generation systems.

The aim of this Master Thesis is the development and optimization of printed & flexible batteries for seamless integration into wearable systems. The following activities will be partaken as part of this thesis:

  • Perform literature review (scientific articles, patents, etc.) to gain insights into the latest advancements in printed battery technologies.
  • Optimize battery fabrication via printing methodologies.
  • Assess and characterize the mechanical and electrochemical properties of printed batteries materials.
  • Provide actionable recommendations to enhance the energy density, flexibility, and overall performance of printed batteries.
  • Collaborate with the project team to support the seamless integration of optimized printed batteries with biosensors and iontophoresis electrodes.
  • Perform data analysis and prepare detailed reports.
YOUR PROFILE

  • Master student in electrical engineering, materials science, electrochemistry, or similar fields
  • Experience with laboratory experimental set ups (printed electronics and/or battery technologies a plus)
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct thorough data analysis and provide comprehensive reports.
  • Experience with CAD tools
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey findings, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Collaboration, teamwork, and eagerness to learn.
  • Good communication skills in English.
