Position Description

The Oyler-Yaniv lab at Harvard Medical School’s Department of Systems Biology is looking for a curious and motivated research assistant to support work on host-virus interactions. The lab is focused on developing a quantitative understanding of the mechanisms that allow an effective immune response while minimizing bystander tissue damage. A successful candidate will directly help to push these efforts by performing experiments with oversight from the lab’s PIs. Experiments will include, but are not limited to, cell culture and sterile technique, basic molecular biology, functional immune assays, ELISA, fluorescent time-lapse microscopy, and immunofluorescence. RAs will also be responsible for maintaining reagent stocks and inventories and for compiling basic experimental protocols for use in the lab. Basic Qualifications


  • College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline.
  • At least one year related work experience (relevant course work may count towards experience).


Additional Qualifications and Skills


  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework and laboratory experience in biology, cell and molecular biology, or related disciplines preferred.
  • Must have strong communication skills and eagerness to learn.
  • Must have good organizational skills and be detail oriented.


Additional Information

This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position.

Work Format Details

This position is based primarily on-campus, in Massachusetts. This may include in-person during emergency situations (if applicable). Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
