As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to make substantial contributions to solving the major challenges of our time, climate change and digitisation. To achieve our goals, we rely on our specific research, development and technology competencies, which are the basis of our commitment to excellence in all areas. With our open culture of innovation and our motivated, international teams, we are working to position AIT as Austria's leading research institution at the highest international level and to make a positive contribution to the economy and society.

Our Center for Vision, Automation & Control is looking for new Ingenious Partners for our location in Vienna. The Center exploits the opportunities provided by automation and digitisation to initiate and advance innovation for industry. Our main goal is to take away the monotonous, heavy, difficult and dangerous aspects of people’s work through innovation. We help our partners by making technical systems more robust, reliable, flexible and easy to use. At the same time we increase the resource efficiency of industrial processes by reducing waste, product failures and emissions.

Our Competence Unit High-Performance Vision Systems has been active in research for industrial inspection and quality assurance systems for over 20 years, which makes us a technology leader in this area. We develop 2D and 3D vision systems, that go beyond state of the art. To reach this we combine innovations in hardware, software, and algorithms - We develop ultrafast line scan sensors and cameras and design scalable embedded vision systems and apply machine learning methods (for e.g., deep learning) to conduct high-performance visual quality inspections of products in manufacturing plants and production processes.

  • You will design and implement embedded Linux systems with system configuration and creation of kernel modules (drivers).
  • You ensure the real-time requirements of multi-core computing systems and coordinate with FPGA hardware development and provide application interfaces.
  • You will implement image processing algorithms on modern multi-core processors (e.g. DSP, X86, ARM, SOCs in FPGAs) in different programming languages (at least C/C++).
  • You will develop vision applications and building blocks that perform successfully in industrial production environments.
  • You will apply software development best practices, such as continuous integration and test-driven development, as part of our agile teamwork.
  • You will be collaborating with colleagues in science projects, to bring ideas to life.
  • You will have the opportunity to work on real-world problems from our industrial customers and partners within national and international research projects.
  • You become part of our multidisciplinary, international team and will work with specialists in: 2D- and 3D-Vision, AI, FPGA and electronics design, CUDA, high speed computing, high concurrency software, inspection systems, robot vision and more.
  • You will have opportunity to advance your skills by participating in our hacking week, by taking on responsibilities of a project manager, scrum master or senior engineer, by visiting conferences or starting your own science project.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed technical studies in computer science, mathematics, electrical engineering, physics or other related fields or similar educational background
  • Experience in the design or implementation of complex algorithms (e.g., in computer vision or image processing) on embedded systems
  • Very good knowledge of the programming languages C or C++ for real-time applications
  • Knowledge of image acquisition techniques, optics, computer architectures and parallel processing is an advantage
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and commitment
  • A very good command of written and spoken English, good German in speaking and writing is an advantage

What to expect:

The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 53.256,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training, and career opportunities.

At AIT diversity and inclusion are of great importance. This is why we strive to inspire women to join our teams in the field of technology. We welcome applications from women, who will be given preference in case of equal qualifications after taking into account all relevant facts and circumstances of all applications.

Please submit your application documents including your CV, cover letter and certificates online.
