Professor of Systematic Theology in Intercultural perspective, beginning
October 1st 2022

It is the objective of FIT to bring Western Protestant traditions in theology into dialogue with other formations of theology in global Christianity and to establish an interface between formats of Christian theological education in different parts of the world. FIT trains employees for new vocational fields in churches, diaconia, communal and non- governmental organizations. In this way, FIT aims to meet the challenges of Christian pluralism in different contexts of the world appropriately and support intercultural competence and social inclusion in societies open for migrants.

Thetitle’SystematicTheologyinInterculturalperspective’ referstothemethodical discourse of theologians from different cultural and societal contexts regarding the philosophical presuppositions, basic contents as well as foundations and ethical consequences of Christian faith at present. In this connection, especially the dynamics of Non-Western Christian theologies and theologies of religions are regarded as essential partners of Academic dialog.

It is expected that the applicant represents the subject area both in Teaching and Research. The successful candidate will assume teaching responsibilities in the BA programs "Intercultural Theology, Migration and Global cooperation " and "Intercultural Theology and Global Diaconia“, as well as in the M.A. program "Intercultural Theology“(conducted by the University of Göttingen in collaboration with the FIT Hermannsburg). Languages of instruction are English and German. The teaching load corresponds to the usual obligations at Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany.

Requirements are

  • An academic degree (see NHG § 25, § 1 No.1),
  • excellence in academic research substantiated by a Th.D./Ph.D. above average, preferably acquired in the field of Systematic Theology,
  • pedagogic suitability, confirmed by advanced practical experience in academic teaching and learning
  • intercultural teaching and learning experiences, preferably acquired outside the
  • country of origin, particularly in non-Western contexts
  • special achievements in the application or development of knowledge and methods in non- academic professional fields of practice,
  • professional practice lasting at least five years, at least three of which must have been executed outside academia (Lower Saxony Higher Education Act, § 25 [1] No.4c).
  • Membership in a Member church which is represented in the World Council of Churches (WCC).

It is expected that the successful candidate is prepared to actively cooperate in the self- administration of FIT. Therefore, it is desired that the applicant provides evidence of any acquired experience in leadership.
This position is suited for a profiling of young researchers.

The contract (with the Evangelical- Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony) for this position will be limited for a period of three years. This limitation is conditioned by the decision of the carrier foundation to close FIT after a period of three more years after the employment (i.e., in summer 2025). The salary will be according to EG 14 TVöD.
