The Department of Systems and Space Engineering contains nine research topics, including the subject information systems. Current research in Information Systems focuses on the design and use of information technology in relation to people, organizations and societies. Information systems research takes place in the areas of: information security, responsible digital innovation and data-driven decision-making in close collaboration with the business community. To strengthen our research in the field of responsible digital innovation, we are now looking for a doctoral student.
NorrlandsNavet (https://www.ltu.se/centres/norrlandsnavet) is a center for the development of business operations in northern Sweden in collaboration between the Kamprad Family Foundation and Luleå University of Technology. Within this project, small and medium-sized companies in northern Sweden are given the opportunity to develop their company with the support of research and education. Part of the activities conducted within NorrlandsNavet are focused on digital transformation where researchers from the research subject Information Systems are involved. We are now looking for two PhD students in Information Systems who will research digital transformation in relation to small and medium-sized companies in Norrland to contribute to sustainable growth.
In the research subject Information Systems, the ongoing digital transformation is an important area. On an overall level, digital transformation embraces the ongoing societal and organizational changes that not least driven by the pandemic. This means that it is important for companies to be able to restructure their operations and understand how digital technology can support their way of working in a good way. It is also the focus of this doctoral position, to understand the way in which small and medium-sized companies should prepare, act and implement digital technology so that they can achieve a digital transformation that provides benefits for their business.
The research subject Information systems focuses on the design and use of information technology in relation to humans, organisations and societies.
Information systems is the scientific subject that develops knowledge related to digitization, its conditions, meaning, values and consequences for individuals, organizations and society. The subject includes studies, and development, of digital practices, resources, artifacts and systems. At Luleå University of Technology, research focuses on developing knowledge of, and influencing, the ongoing digital transformation in society with the goal to contribute to a sustainable society where we take our starting point in local conditions for achieving global impact.
As a PhD student you are expected to preform both theoretical and practical work. The research results are communicated at national and international conferences, in scientific journals and in meetings with relevant actors outside the academy. The main work is related to your own dissertation project, but as a PhD student you are also expected to participate in the department's and NorrlandsNavet's other activities.You might also be given the opportunity to try the teacher role. The current research project provides a unique opportunity to become part of a multidisciplinary research group and conduct research in close collaboration with industry and civil society. Profile and experience
We are looking for an ambitious and creative colleague with a master's degree in the major subject information systems, computer and systems science, informatics, data science, design, information security or equivalent. The position requires good knowledge of spoken and written communication in both English and Swedish. You have a strong interest in and preferably also experience of the research profile of the area described above. You find it easy to communicate and collaborate in groups. You may also have subject knowledge and qualifications in society's digitalisation and have good methodological skills.
Selection and ranking of the applicants is done through an assessment of the prospects of successfully completing the doctoral studies. The breadth and depth of the applicant's merits are valued, as is his analytical ability. As an applicant, you are therefore invited to attach a master's thesis and / or other documents that may form the basis for an assessment of your analytical skills. In addition to this, independence, initiative, creativity and good ability to cooperate are highly valued for the advertised position.
Previous experience of working with issues related to digital transformation, digital platforms, small and medium-sized companies is an advantage.
