The Institute's Radiation Biology Department investigates, among other things, the effects of cosmic radiation on the human body. We are looking for a person with proven expertise and a publication profile in the field of genome stability. The research profile of the applicant should include experience in mechanisms of DNA damage response (DNA repair, cell cycle control, cell death, senescence, etc.) and genome stability in human cells, and/or radiation biology.

Willingness to collaborate closely with the other research foci of the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine, e.g. in human studies, and the University of Cologne and University Hospital Cologne, in particular the Cluster of Excellence CECAD on Aging and Age-Related Diseases and the DFG Research Group (FOR5504) on Physiological Causes and Consequences of Genome Instability, is expected.

Become part of this extraordinary institute and contribute your expertise to solving the "radiation problem". You will be faced with the following tasks:

  • technical and organizational head of the Genome Maintenance Mechanisms working group in the
    Department of Radiation Biology
  • acquisition and management of (third-party) funded research projects
  • supervision of Bachelor's/Master's theses and medical/scientific doctorates

Your qualifications:

  • A prerequisite for employment at DLR is security clearance in accordance with the German Security Clearance Act (SÜG) and the willingness to undergo security clearance in accordance with §8 ff SÜG.
  • completed scientific university education (university degree/master's degree) in biology,
  • biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, cell biology, human biology, biomedicine, human
  • medicine or a related subject with a doctorate
  • excellent expertise in DNA repair and/or radiation biology, ideally knowledge of tumor biology
  • and/or the biology of aging
  • in-depth knowledge of working with cell cultures or organoids and cell and molecular biology
  • research activities including relevant publications
  • successful acquisition of third-party funding and experience in submitting
  • applications
  • experience in staff management
