Assistant / Associate Professor in Auditing & Assurance

Nyenrode Business University enjoys a good national and international reputation and is a highly ranked European business school. Education and research in Accounting, Auditing & Control is a core area in Nyenrode’s activities. The university intends to strengthen its important academic position by appointing an assistant or associate professor to the Center for Accounting, Auditing & Control, with a primary focus on research and education in the field of Auditing & Assurance. 

The ideal candidate will have a background in accountancy, assurance services, or related fields, along with a familiarity with business disciplines. We are looking for a candidate who is curious, creative, and eager to pursue interdisciplinary research that is aligned with Nyenrode’s core values of leadership, entrepreneurship, and stewardship.

Center of Accounting, Auditing & Control (AAC)

The field of Auditing & Assurance focuses on the independent and professional auditing of financial statements, the broader assurance and risk reporting role of the auditor, and the raison d'être of the accounting profession. Research focuses on topics such as drivers for audit quality, assurance on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) information, fraud, and corporate governance. These topics are studied at Nyenrode from a variety of academic disciplines and different perspectives. The Center's various members work from these diverse disciplines, and their work is published in highly rated international journals. The Center collaborates nationally and internationally with other universities and with external and visiting professors in research projects.

Purpose and Positioning

The candidate is expected to:

• conduct research in Auditing & Assurance:
• collaborate in (interdisciplinary) research projects in close cooperation with the accounting profession and practice.
• translate scientific research into the improvement of education; and
• represent the Center and Nyenrode Business University at (inter)national meetings, boards, and committees.
• actively contribute to the public and professional debate that touches the field of the research domain.
• participate in the educational programs of AAC by:
• taking responsibility for educational activities in Auditing & Assurance and related fields; and
• teaching within the AAC undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate programs.

We are looking for a creative and inspiring researcher with good leadership qualities, leadership skills, and a strong professional network. He/she should have a clear vision for addressing current scientific challenges in the field of Auditing & Assurance. The candidate will collaborate with national and international research institutes, universities, and companies - including accounting firms - to further fulfill the research ambitions of Nyenrode Business University. Having an affinity with the trusted advisor role of auditors is an advantage, given that Nyenrode is the market leader in auditor education in the Netherlands.

The following job requirements are relevant:

• a PhD in auditing, accounting, or related fields (to support interdisciplinary research).
• a demonstrated research ability, as evidenced by published work in peer-reviewed journals (or a pipeline of work in progress).
• a demonstrated capability to successfully teach and supervise undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.
• a familiarity with business disciplines and an ability to integrate multiple disciplines in teaching and research.
• strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• strong English speaking and writing skills are essential, while familiarity with the Dutch language is preferred but not required.
