The Institute of Biochemistry (www.biochem.uni-frankfurt.de) in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main offers the position of a

starting at the next possible date, initially funded for a period of four years with the option of extension. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).

We are looking for an outstanding early career scientist who is willing to start an independent research group within the Collaborative Research Center 1507 (www.sfb1507.de) and to apply for a research grant (Emmy Noether Programme, ERC Starting Grant or similar funding). Our CRC involves 20 project leaders and around 100 employees striving for an in-depth, quantitative understanding of the structure and mechanism of key membrane-associated assemblies, machineries, and supercomplexes as a basis for a multiscale decoding of the associated cellular processes.

Your responsibilities:

Focused on a central topic, the new research group will use cutting-edge methods of biochemistry and structural biology to discover the role and modular organization principles of functional units and protein assemblies confined in membranes. The research program is expected to complement the scientific interests of the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences and should be connected to collaborative research activities of the Institute of Biochemistry. The group will be provided with laboratory space and a modern research infrastructure including facilities ranging from cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, nuclear / electron resonance spectroscopy, and advanced light microscopy to mass spectrometry, ultrafast spectroscopy, optogenetics and artificial intelligence-guided molecular dynamics simulations and modeling.

Your profile:

For this position we are looking for a committed and self-motivated individual with good communication skills and the desire to take on leadership responsibility in a multidisciplinary international environment. A university degree, an excellent doctorate in the natural or life sciences, and an outstanding publication record are required.
