Head of Research Unit - Piezoelectric Microsystem Technologies (f/m/d)

YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES
SAL is a fast-growing organization that is on the way to become a world-class R&D partner for industry in the field of electronic based systems. SAL’s Piezoelectric Microsystem Technologies (PMT) research unit aims to bridge the gap between fundamental research and industrial applications with advanced technologies focusing on major industrial markets including integrated piezoelectric-based MEMS and MOEMS devices such as smart lighting and imaging systems, LiDAR, acoustic devices, RF filters and etc.
The PMT Research Unit is part of the newly founded Research Division Microsystems and is responsible for developing new concepts, designing, modelling, fabricating, characterizing, and prototyping of piezoelectric MEMS components for industrial applications in collaboration with company and research partners.
Your Leadership responsibilities:
- Management and further development of the research unit in the Research Division Microsystems.
- Corporate and profit responsibility.
- Staff responsibility for the research group including scientific support and supervision of researchers.
- Project initiation and management.
- International partner acquisition and network support.
- Shaping the division research program and project portfolio together with supervisors and peers.
- Growing the research unit towards research excellence and economic impact.
Your Scientific responsibilities:
- Definition, setup, and management of cooperative and funded research projects.
- Guiding research staff on piezo MEMS.
- Close cooperation and support of scientific and industrial project partners in cooperative research projects.
- Dissemination of research results on respected conferences and journals.
YOUR PROFILE
- University degree and strong expertise in at least one of the following piezo MEMS fields: PMUT, piezo actuated micro-mirror, piezo microphone, BAW and SAW devices.
- Strong knowledge in semiconductor technologies and practical and professional experience in related cleanroom microfabrication processes and piezoelectric thin film technology.
- Expert with FEM simulation methods and tools (COMSOL).
- Interested in piezo MEMS development and in application-oriented development of innovative sensor concepts.
- Autonomous, well organized and enjoy working in a dynamic and multicultural team.
- Strong scientific / research track record evidenced by publications, invited lectures or patents on related fields.
- Leadership qualities with the ability to inspire, promote and motivate young, early career as well as experienced scientists.
- Proven record of at least 5 years of previous experience of being a group leader.
- Multi-year experience in acquisition and guidance of Austrian / European funding projects and scientific cooperative research (minimum 10 years of experience)
- Active industrial and academic network.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English.

This position is subject to the Collective Agreement for employees in non-university research (Research CA) in occupational group G (G1 salary = EUR 4.582, paid 14 times a year). Your actual salary depends on your experience and qualifications. We offer a salary in the range between EUR 85.000 to EUR 95.000 (annual, based on an All-in contract and bonus).ABOUT US
