Geo-INQUIRE is setting out to enhance the access to key data sets, “big” data streams, and high-performance computing codes to encourage and support curiosity-driven research within the geoscience and geo-resource domains. Such resources are becoming ever more critical to studying the temporal variations in processes affecting the solid Earth, forecasting multi-hazards, and understanding the processes occurring at the interface between the solid Earth and its fluid envelops. Geo-INQUIRE is supported by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe program, within their infrastructure call. With a budget of around 16 million euros and a consortium of 51 members and a portfolio of over 150 products and services, Geo-INQUIRE offers a challenging opportunity to be at the forefront of efforts to expand the openness of European geoscience and the exploitation of such rich variety of data, products, and services.

Your responsibilities:

• Oversee the general progress of the project within the context of the work plan
• Be part of the project management team and support the project scientific coordinator and scientific director in the day-to-day running of the project’s activities
• Maintain communication between the project management team and the consortium as a whole, especially with the work package and task leadership
• Be the main point of contact between the project management team and the project officer in Brussels
• Ensure the timely coordination, completion, and submission of all required reports (technical and financial) to the European Commission
• Oversee the maintenance of the project website, the production and dissemination of the project newsletter, and other dissemination actions as the occasion arises, including with the GFZ press office
• Ensure the timely completion of the expected deliverables, including the associated quality control
• Assist the project scientific coordinator to resolve any conflicts of whatever nature that arise within the project consortium, or between the project and the European Commission. This includes any required changes to the work plan
• Organize the annual assemblies of the project in collaboration with the hosting partner
• Arrange and attend regular management meetings between the project management team and other leaders within the project, as well as distributing the resulting protocols
• Ensure the efficient use of project resources and arranging the timely payments to project partners via the GFZ administration

Your qualifications:

• You are a scientist (PhD degree)  with project management skills or you have studied business administration (Msc or PhD degree) and have a solid experience in science.
• Experience in the management and coordination of research projects within the context of European Commission calls
• A knowledge of geosciences and/or geo-resources would be advantage, but is not essential
• The working language of the project is English. Knowledge of German would be an advantage, but is not essential
• Experience with the commonly known management would be an advantage, but not essential
