The Department of Biomedicine, University of Basel, Switzerland, invites qualified candidates to apply for post-doctoral positions in Medicinal Chemistry. The candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the development of new bioactive molecules targeting major signaling pathways in cancer and inflammation. Main targets are stress kinases vital for metabolic control and immune checkpoint modulation in cancer therapy.
 
The working place of the successful candidate is the Department of Biomedicine at Mattenstrasse 28, 4057 Basel.
 
Projects:

• Main focus: Targeting oncogenicity by covalent inhibitors, an Innosuisse-funded project with translational aspects. For a relevant recent publication see Borsari et al. (2022) J. Am. Chem. Soc. 144(14): 6326–6342. This project is flanked by a basic reasearch project developing novel chemical probes and degraders to dissect mechanisms of adverse effects in cancer and metabolism. Your position

• Design, development and implementation of multi-step syntheses to access small heterocyclic molecules with chemically reactive warheads to generate cancer targeting covalent inhibitors.
• Improve biological activity of hit and lead compounds through structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies to support a preclinical development processes.
• Work in a multi-disciplinary environment collaborating with experts in the field of cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, and computational chemistry.
• Writing of scientific publications, patents and regulatory reports.
• Supervision of chemistry students.

Your profile

The successful candidate holds a PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry. Expertise in organic synthesis with emphasis on the synthesis of biologically active molecules is desired. Experience in virtual screening, molecular dynamics and modelling is welcome.
The candidate has an excellent proven track record in the publication of peer-reviewed scientific articles and/or patents.
The candidate's Ph.D. should not be more than four to five years in the past.
