Postdoctoral Position (m/f/div)
within our ATLAS Inner Detector Group
The Max Planck Institute for Physics is a research institute focusing on particle and astroparticle physics from both an experimental and a theoretical perspective. One main research activity is the participation in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The ATLAS collaboration investigates the consistency of the standard model with very high precision and also extends the search for physics beyond the standard model to unprecedented accelerator energies.
The data analysis program being pursued by our ATLAS Inner Detector Group concentrates on high- precision measurements of the top-quark mass and their combination. The hardware engagement focuses on the assembly and test of silicon pixel-modules for the new ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) to be operated during the high-luminosity phase of the LHC.
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental particle physics to strengthen our ATLAS Inner Detector Group. The successful candidate is expected to make significant contributions to the analyses of ATLAS data as well as to the assembly and test of pixel modules for the ITk. We are seeking an outstanding candidate holding a PhD (or equivalent) in experimental particle physics. Previous experience in data analyses and silicon tracking detectors is advantageous. We require good communication skills, capability to effectively work in a team, and willingness for business travel in accordance with the needs of our research.
Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). The contract is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension.
The Max Planck Society strives for gender equality and diversity. The Max Planck Society is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
For questions concerning the position, please contact Dr. Richard Nisius (nisius@mpp.mpg.de). Interested scientists should send their application until October 11, 2024, exclusively via our online application portal. Applications must include a motivation letter, curriculum vitae with university certificates, statement of research interests, and a list of publications. Please provide three names and contact details of persons who will be providing reference letters upon our request. We are looking forward to your online application.
