The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Children's Hospital of Basel are seeking to appoint a
Professor for Neuroorthopaedics
The UKBB is the University Children's Hospital in the region of North-western Switzerland.Basel has a long tradition as a centre of excellence for paediatric and adult neuroorthopaedics with national and international reputation and excellent scientific track record. The position of Head of Neuroorthopaedics will now be upgraded and combined with a substantive University professorship. In addition to heading the clinical department, the Professor will be involved in research and teaching. This professorship is based at the Department of Paediatric Orthopaedics in UKBB.Your position
The successful applicant will be responsible for the Paediatric neuroorthopaedic Department, including the gait laboratory at the University Children's Hospital Basel (UKBB) and for the transition of paediatric neuroorthopaedic patients to adult orthopaedics, at the University Hospital Basel.
The clinical expertise and translational research background of the applicant will strengthen the national and international visibility of neuroorthopaedics in Basel.
The applicant's clinical expertise and interest in medical education will ensure and promote the modern education and training of orthopaedic residents and senior physicians, in accordance with the guidelines of the Swiss Institute for Continuing Medical Education (SIWF). The applicant will be committed to university research and teaching (including collaboration with the Department of Biomedical Engineering), inspire students for their subject and promote the next generation of orthopaedic academics. The applicant will develop an attractive working environment for academic and clinical specialists and lead a successful research team.
Your profile
The applicant will have broad surgical experience in the field of orthopaedics and outstanding clinical and surgical expertise in paediatric and adult neuroorthopaedics. In particular, the clinical expertise will include instrumented gait analysis, provision of assistive technology and orthotics, as well as patient management in the field of muscle tone pathology (including botulinum toxin injections, indications for rhizotomy and intrathecal lioresal pump implantation), neuromuscular diseases, encephalopathies, as well as genetic bone and connective tissue disorders.
The applicant will have an outstanding track record of internationally visible research, including successful competitive third-party funding, in a research area relevant to the field, preferably on a patient-oriented topic.
The applicant will have proven leadership experience in an academic environment and will ideally have completed training in hospital and departmental management (e.g. MBA). The applicant will be accepted and trusted by colleagues, employees and patients for their clinical expertise, participative leadership, excellent communication skills and high level of social competence. The applicant will inspire creative thinking and action and will support team members.
The applicant will have excellent German and English language skills. Very good language skills in French would be desirable.
