About TU Darmstadt
TU Darmstadt stands for excellent and relevant science. We are playing a decisive role in shaping far-reaching processes of global change—from energy transition to artificial intelligence—through outstanding scientific knowledge and innovative academic programmes. We group our cutting-edge research into three fields: Energy and Environment, Information and Intelligence, Matter and Materials. We are a university with strong ties to the Frankfurt Rhine-Main metropolitan region and a very strong international focus. We are committed to European values and European integration.
About our department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt is seeking to fill a university professorship (W3) for Forming Technology as soon as possible. The importance of forming technology is increasing in the context of the growing demand for resource-efficient products. New manufacturing technologies must enable both material-efficient and multifunctional components. This requires innovations that not only consider individual manufacturing technologies but also the interlocking of technologies in novel process chains. The increasing customisation of products also requires flexible and autonomous machine concepts that not only increase productivity but also counteract the shortage of skilled workers.
In addition to forming technology as a core technology, the professorship's research should also include other manufacturing technologies in the sense of a comprehensive process chain approach. We are looking for a scientist with an international reputation and visibility who represents the field of forming technology in research and teaching.
Your tasks
To strengthen our research activities, we are looking for a person with excellent scientific credentials in the field of forming technology and relevant experience in one or more of the following key research areas:
We expect a willingness for national and international co-operation and interdisciplinary work both within the department and with other departments and research institutions.
The professorship should also represent the field of forming technology in teaching and also participate in overarching courses in the department.
Your profile
A degree in engineering or natural sciences followed by a qualified doctorate, internationally recognised research achievements, habilitation or equivalent, experience in acquiring third-party funding, didactic and pedagogical aptitude, leadership experience and a willingness to participate in academic self-administration are required. Several years of practical experience in industry in the fields of manufacturing technologies and production machinery are considered highly advantageous.
As part of the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main metropolitan region, TU Darmstadt and its surroundings are characterised by an international outlook. A core element of this is a cosmopolitan climate with functional multilingualism at our university. Therefore, very good English and - after three years at the latest - good German language skills are expected.
The position includes a remuneration package commensurate with experience and qualifications, following the German "W-Besoldung," and is subject to negotiations between the applicant and the university directorate. Further requirements for employment are based on § 67 and § 68 HessHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
We offer
Technical University of Darmstadt offers varied and challenging assignments, freedom to work independently, the latest technologies, good collaboration between colleagues in partnership, needs-based training opportunities and customised personnel development.
