Posting Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST 2, Aeronautics and Astronautics, to be responsible for basic research (65%) including design novel algorithms and models for reasoning about actions in complex environments and for incorporating textual descriptions of human intent, requirements and constraints; engineering (25%) including integrate software from multiple research groups in LIDS and CSAIL, design, implement, test and maintain software infrastructure, including but not limited to data logging, visualization, test infrastructure, continuous build-and-test services, inter-process communication, and embedded firmware; engagement with sponsors (5%) including co-ordinate with the project prime, Saab, including code-base management and graduate student mentorship (not direct supervision) (5%).


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: PhD in computer science/computer engineering or a related engineering field; extensive programming experience (4+ years) in C++ and python; a minimum 4 years of related experience in a research environment; experience in machine learning software development and engineering practices, including specific experience in working with large language models; experience in simulation environments, including specific experience in simulating autonomous robot agents; ability to establish goals and remain on schedule, collaborate to move the project to meet its objectives, with minimal supervision; ability to work effectively and productively, in a team-based environment, across all levels with faculty, staff, students and other internal staff members; excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to communicate collaboratively at the highest technical levels with clients, vendors, partners, and all levels of MIT staff; solid project management skills; a demonstrated ability to launch and deliver IT projects on time and within budget; solid analytical, problem-solving, time management, decision-making and organizational skills; and meticulous attention to detail. PREFERRED: Background in algorithms for robotics software and autonomy. Job #24644
