Geodesist (f/m/x) - Simulation of quantum gravimeter applications

17259

Job Description

Req ID:  848

Place of work:  Hannover

Starting date:  Schnellstmöglich

Career level:  Graduates, Experienced professionals, Doctorate

Type of employment:  Full-time, Part time

Duration of contract:  Zunächst für 2 Jahre

Remuneration: Remuneration is in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Sector - Federal Government (TVöD-Bund)

The Institute of Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing develops application scenarios for gravity field determination and inertial navigation using quantum sensor technology. The work ranges from determining the Earth's mass transport as a result of climate change and geophysical processes to determining gravitational fields on Earth, planets and moons in the solar system.

Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

What to expect
As part of the Waterside project, you will develop a simulation environment that enables the development of reliable detection of munitions remnants using quantum-based or conventional gravity field sensors. Precise localisation is required for the recovery of contaminated sites under water. Due to the physical properties of the underwater domain (attenuation, turbidity), the use of conventional camera systems is limited. You will analyse the munition-induced gravity signals in a simulation and evaluate the necessary accuracy and the definition of instrument requirements. You will also develop observation scenarios for underwater gravimetry and gradiometry as well as methods for separating the munition-induced gravity field signals from other relevant gravity field signals.

Your tasks

  • Development of a simulation tool for gravity field signals in an underwater environment
  • Characterisation of the maritime environment and the time-variable gravity field signal
  • Analysing existing instruments and measurement procedures
  • Development of static and kinematic measurement concepts using new quantum sensors
  • Scenario development for future projects and possible commercial realisation
  • Scientific publications of the results and participation in the initiation of new projects

Your profile

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master / Diploma Uni) in engineering (e.g. in the fields of geodesy and geoinformatics) or natural sciences (e.g. specialising in physics) or other relevant degree programmes.
  • Expertise in numerical simulation or the terrestrial gravity field
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering tools
  • Programming skills (e.g. Julia, Matlab, Python, C/C++, Fortran...)
  • Interest in the independent planning and implementation of project work
  • Very good written and spoken English skills

Remuneration is up to the German TVöD 13 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks.

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.

We look forward to getting to know you!
