Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure. Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place!

What you can expect

The department Information systems and mobility is researching individualised mobility solutions to supplement existing public transport services. Automated vehicles of a smaller size are to act as feeder vehicles to conventional public transport. In this way, routes on the first/last mile can be adapted to the needs of passengers and the attractiveness of public transport can be increased. To ensure effective operational management in on-demand transport, we localise passengers in real time using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and other modern technologies for this purpose.

The aim of the work is to develop a suitable model (e.g., Fuzzy-Logic / Hidden Markov Model) to effectively capture the boarding and alighting process with BLE.

Your tasks

  • Development of a Fuzzy-Logic or Hidden Markov Model for modelling boarding and alighting in autonomous public transport.
  • Preparation and implementation of measurement campaigns for data collection and validation of the model
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to integrate the model into existing systems and simulation environments

Your profile

  • ongoing studies in the field of computer science, traffic planning, mathematics or a related field of study
  • independent working style and ability to work in a team
  • good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • basic knowledge of Fuzzy Logic, Hidden Markov Model and their applications
  • experience with the Python programming language desirable
  • interest in autonomous systems and public transport

We offer

DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally. To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities.
