Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) is an affiliate of the Swiss Paraplegic Foundation. The mission of SPF is to sustainably improve the situation of people with spinal cord injury (SCI) through clinical and interdisciplinary research on a national and international level. Specific areas of its comprehensive research include functioning, social integration, equality of opportunity, self-determination, quality of life, as well as morbidity and mortality. The Life Course Epidemiology Group at SPF provides longitudinal and life course epidemiological inference about SCI in Switzerland to various stakeholders, including service providers and policy makers, mainly using the real-world evidence from the Swiss Spinal Cord Injury Cohort Study (SwiSCI). The Work and Integration group promotes research on return to work and labour market participation that informs vocational integration practice and policy for persons living with SCI and other health conditions.

Within the collaborative research project "Work Life Course" funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) we are currently looking for a

Post-doctoral Fellow in Epidemiological Modelling of Sustainable Labour Market Participation 80-100%.

The post-doctoral fellow will direct and contribute to applied, interdisciplinary research targeting the evaluation of trajectories and key transitions in the work life course of persons with SCI, including the development of a Markov multi-state model for the comprehensive evaluation of sustainable labour market participation. Using a broad set of personal and job-related characteristics, also data on re-education and work integration measures, factual and counterfactual predictions will be derived as to best inform the development of guidelines for supporting sustainable labour market participation.

  • Scientific and daily operational coordination of the project
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists, vocational integration specialists and SCI physicians
  • Contribute to the development, design and conduct of project-specific epidemiological research
  • Presentation of research findings at international conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Opportunity to provide teaching support in the annual life course epidemiology course at the University of Lucerne

  • Strong interest in applied research in the area of epidemiology and rehabilitation policy and practice
  • PhD in relevant discipline (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, health or rehabilitation sciences, social sciences, psychology)
  • Proficiency in the application of statistical software package, preferable in STATA and/or R
  • Experience with time-to-event (survival) modelling and skills in trajectory analysis and multi-state modelling are assets
  • Excellent proficiency in English
