Computational Biologist for Biomedicine (100%)

Computational Biologist for Biomedicine (100%)

The University of Basel is a world leader in biomedical sciences, with many close collaborations between basic research and clinical application. We are recruiting a computational biologist to complement ongoing research in this domain. The research groups of Professor Markus Heim and Professor Christoph Hess at the Department of Biomedicine employ extensive molecular profiling in basic research of cancer and immunobiology. We invite applications for a computational biologist (100%) to support quantitative research in these two research groups. The position will be embedded in the Hall and Hess labs, and hosted by sciCORE – the center for scientific computing at the University of Basel.

Your position

The successful candidate will provide consulting and execute data analysis in research projects undertaken by the Heim and Hess labs. We expect close coordination regarding experimental design, and a leadership role in applying appropriate statistical, computational, and data visualization methods towards scientific publications. You will join a team of data analysts at sciCORE, which will formally host the position. Some participation in the general scientific support activities of sciCORE is expected.

Your profile

Our ideal candidate has a strong experience (postdoctoral level) in bioinformatics, statistics, and biomedical sciences, with a specific interest in oncology and immunology. Advanced fluency in working with *omics data and Python and/or R are required. Expertise in computational proteomics and metabolomics is preferred for this position. Previous work involving the integration of complex data sets and familiarity with state-of-the-art machine learning frameworks will also be an asset. We expect our candidate to be flexible, proactive, and capable of following several projects in parallel.

We offer you

You will be part of world-leading research groups at the forefront of molecular oncology/immunology research. External collaborations and authorship in publications can be expected. At sciCORE, you will collaborate closely with a team of data analysts active in various domains (from biostatistics to astrophysics), and benefit from membership in the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. sciCORE also collaborates closely with the bioinformatics community locally, nationally, and internationally. We support our team members in their own training, networking and career development. The University of Basel is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer committed to excellence through diversity.

Application / Contact

We look forward to receiving your complete application via the university's online application portal (see button below). Applications should include a curriculum vitae, list of publications indicating the five most significant papers, a link to your code repository or portfolio of data analysis projects, and names of [2-3] potential referees. Applications by email cannot be considered. For further information, please contact Dr. Geoffrey Fucile at scicore@unibas.ch.

The position will remain open until filled.
