Postdoctoral Scientist Position in Liver Immunology
A Postdoc position is available in the Liver Immunology research group at the Department of Biomedicine of the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. The Liver Immunology research group is a young team working in close collaborations with clinicians and scientists at the University Hospitals in Basel, Liestal, Bern and Oxford. Liver diseases represent a rapidly increasing health-risk worldwide. Most liver diseases are
characterized by an inflammatory response in the liver, leading to progressive fibrosis that can result in liver cirrhosis, loss of liver function or development of hepatocellular carcinoma. We are investigating the role of Mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells in the pathophysiology of liver diseases. Our interest in this context is the interplay between the gut and the liver, referred to as the immunological gut-liver axis.
The selected candidate will investigate the gut microbiome, as well as immune cells present in the human liver and gut, and will apply various cellular and molecular approaches in order to find disease-specific changes and identify potential drivers of liver fibrogenesis. The goal of the study is to increase the knowledge on the pathophysiology of liver diseases and to elucidate novel targets for potential therapies.
