The Flight Experiments facility at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is Europe’s largest operator of atmospheric and earth observational research aircrafts. The heavily modified aircraft fleet is used by numerous research facilities, universities, authorities and companies worldwide.

Your work as a research associate within our Instrumentation and Data Science group would include the following:
- Developing aircraft sensors to measure meteorological parameters
- Developing new in-flight calibration procedures, software to analyze aircraft measurement data, and extending existing analysis sequences
- Further developing calibration procedures and modifying existing calibration equipment of principal parameters
- Supporting research campaigns with DLR’s atmospheric research aircrafts and analyzing the collected data
- You completed your masters degree (or equivalent) in the natural sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry) or an equivalent course relevant to this job
- You have extended knowledge in atmospheric physics and atmospheric measurement systems
- You have several years of experience with measurements on aircraft research campaigns and the data analyses that followed
- You have led the revision of an instrument certification on a research aircraft
- You were the project lead in setting up a new measurement system on an atmospheric research aircraft: you were responsible for the hardware acquisition, provided input for its certification and were in charge of establishing a calibration procedure
- You established a new chain of documentation and analysis for the calibration procedures of scientific aircraft sensors
- You have IT experience in data acquisition, data analysis and working with sensor systems
- You can demonstrate the basics in the coding languages LabView and LabView RealTime
- You have fundamental knowledge of CAD software
- You can demonstrate the basics in creating wiring diagrams
- You are willing to participate in multi-week research campaigns abroad
