In the offered master thesis, an appropriate 1D / 2D heat conduction model is to be implemented numerically efficiently in an existing Python environment. The Python environment has an interface to the flow solver DLR-TAU Code, which allows a coupling between TAU and the 1D / 2D heat model.  After implementation, simulations are to be carried out for a 2D test case (Fig. 1 left) and then for a 3D test case (Fig. 1 right). The results will be analyzed and documented.

Your tasks:

  • literature review for appropriate 1D / 2D heat conduction models
  • getting familiar with in-house DLR tools (TAU / FlowSimulator Data Manager)
  • efficient and parallel implementation of 1D / 2D heat conduction model in simulation chain
  • performing simulations with simulation chain for 2D and 3D test cases
  • optional validation of the results by coupled simulations: TAU + FEM 
  • studying Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or Informatics or equivalent
  • knowledge of fluid dynamics & CFD
  • programming skills in python required
  • parallel programming skills are beneficial
