Your tasks

The selection process is competitive. Only excellent students will be admitted to the PhD Programme in Economics and Econometrics (PEcon). Admission to PEcon is based on Programme Committee's evaluation of your submitted application documents ('sur dossier').

Admitted candidates will start their coursework in September.

Admitted candidates may also be hired as research assistants at their supervisor's chair. We offer teaching and research assistant positions with very competitive salaries. We offer a vibrant research community and financial support to research activities.

Please make sure that you follow the instructions given on the admission website of the Graduate Programme of Economics and Finance gpef.unisg.ch (Admission PEcon Economics and Econometrics).

Your profile

  • You have a master's degree in economics, finance, quantitative methods or a related field with very good grades and want to pursue a PhD in Economics and Econometrics (current master students who will finish their degree before June 30 may also apply).

Necessary documents

  • CV
  • Degree certificates from each university attended (bachelor and master, including exchange programmes and «transcripts of records» from unfinished programmes of study)
  • Motivation letter including a description of research interests (referring to the list of proposed fields/topics and potential supervisors) and stating your preferred specialisation (Economics or Econometrics). Please also indicate whether you already contacted a potential supervisor.
  • GRE/GMAT (some applicants may be exempted from having to present a GRE or GMAT result; a PDF of the scores is enough) [recommended, can also be provided later]
  • Evidence of English language proficiency (can be provided later)
  • Two reference letters, sent directly by the letter writers to gpef@unisg.ch

We are looking forward to your online-application.
