Subject description

At the faculty of social sciences, research on working life and organization is conducted at several departments, primarily in sociology and psychology. Research on working life and organization is an important interdisciplinary interface with other faculties, primarily the humanities, medicine, and technology, as well as the School of Economics and Management. The faculty intends to strengthen and further develop this field both within research and education. The professorship will be located at the department of sociology.

The department of sociology has a long tradition of outstanding and internationally acclaimed research in theory development and empirical grounded studies https://www.soc.lu.se/. The research environment is characterized by a self-evident and well-thought-out methodological curiousity, where different methods and methodological considerations are explored and studied critically. The department, together with the faculty, wants to further strengthen such an environment with a professor of sociology with a focus on working life and organization. We are therefore looking for a person with a very good analytical eye for empirical material, as well as deep and broad knowledge in the field of working life and work organization.

Duties

The position includes research, teaching and supervision in the field of working life and organization at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate levels within sociology. A professor has an overall responsibility for leading and organizing research and teaching, as well as for the continuous development of the subject. A particularly important task is to develop both the department's and the faculty's research in the field, for example by actively contributing by applying for external research grants and actively participating in the international debate.

The professor will also actively participate in the work of our interdisciplinary Bachelor's Programme in Human Resources. The professor will also work with the development of a new Master's programme in the same subject. This includes working for a strong connection between research and education.
The position also involves administrative tasks relating to research, education and management assignments within the department of sociology or other levels within Lund University. As a professor you will be expected to actively participate in the daily work of the department.

Eligibility/qualifications

Eligible candidates must have a PhD in sociology or equivalent and be able to demonstrate a level of research and teaching expertise within the field of sociology with a focus on working life and organization that meets the requirements for the position of a professor (in accordance with Article 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance).

Applicants must be able to provide documented evidence of outstanding and internationally renowned academic credentials including research, research project management and teaching in the field of working life and organization. Eligible candidates should have documented evidence of teaching experience at undergraduate, advanced, and postgraduate levels. In addition, to be eligible, the applicant must have the experience of supervising at least one doctoral student to the defense of their doctoral thesis.

Eligible candidates shall have undergone a minimum of five weeks of teacher training at the university level or acquired the same level of competence by other means. Applicants who do not already have teacher training at the university level are expected to complete it within one year of the employment.
For teachers at Lund University, suitability and skills in communication, cooperation and leadership necessary to perform the professor role is considered a general eligibility requirement.

Assessment criteria

We are looking for a person with an excellent analytical eye for empirical material, as well as good theoretical knowledge of the field. Of great importance is that the applicant has established themselves as an independent researcher at an international level by:

(2) winning research funding in competition with other researchers,

(3) having a documented ability to plan and lead scientific projects as well as establishing and leading strong research environments,

(4) a proven track record of national and international research collaborations.

Candidates for the position will also be assessed on their track record of supervising doctoral students and creating opportunities for junior researchers in establishing themselves as independent researchers.

The applicants will also be assessed on their pedagogical merits and skills. This includes assessment of their ability to develop and lead different pedagogical activities and courses in the field of working life and organization, as well as their ability to conduct teaching and facilitate learning using a variety of methods.

The overall assessment will consider the scope of the position and the total amount of duties relevant for the professor position.
