We are looking for a postdoc (f/m/d) to join our team in Fürth for up to six years starting as soon as possible. The possible research areas are public economics, behavioral economics, and other economic research fields relevant to the development of the social market economy.


At the Ludwig Erhard ifo Center for Social Market Economy and Institutional Economics in Fürth, we investigate how markets and government action should be designed to meet current challenges - such as demographic change, climate change, and economic inequality. What is the impact of the institutional framework, e.g., the tax and transfer system or the pension scheme, on behavior? When do individuals break the rules? What do people know about economic mechanisms and how can their knowledge be improved? We would like to answer these and other questions. Join us in this task!


We seek a team member who is passionate about high-quality research on policy-relevant questions, hase a strong drive to further her*his own research agenda, and is willing to give guidance for doctoral candidates and to communicate her*his research to the public and media.

Your new job includes…


  • research in the field of public economics, behavioral economics, and other fields related to the development of the social market economy, contributing to solutions for current societal challenges with experimental methods or applied econometrics.
  • conceiving, acquiring, managing, and working on third-party funded projects.

What we expect from your profile…


  • You have a degree in economics with a focus on public economics, behavioral economics, applied microeconomics or a related field and have completed your PhD by job start.
  • You have already proven your relevant knowledge and experience through articles in internationally recognized refereed journals or working papers suitable for publication.
  • You contribute in-depth knowledge of methods of experimental economics (field, lab, survey) or applied microeconometrics, and applied economics.
  • You have experience with big data and machine learning methods? This would be a particular asset!
  • With excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, you are able to interact confidently in the international network of researchers.
  • Knowledge of the German language is an advantage.
  • You are a team player and like to take responsibility for yourself and others.

  • receives its salary according to TV-L E 13 or E 14 (incl. special annual payment) depending on publications and are part of the company pension scheme (VBL) (in addition to the statutory pension insurance).

  • take up our company "holidays" during the year (a half day on Carnival Tuesday and the 24th and 31st of December, each full day).
  • are entitled to a relocation allowance after passing their probationary period if they move to Fuerth or the surrounding area from a radius of 200 km or more (like all our employees).
