INRAE presentation

The French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment (INRAE) is a major player in research and innovation. It is a community of 12,000 people with 272 research, experimental research, and support units located in 18 regional centres throughout France. Internationally, INRAE is among the top research organisations in the agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences, as well as in ecology and environmental science. It is the world’s leading research organisation specialising in agriculture, food and the environment. INRAE’s goal is to be a key player in the transitions necessary to address major global challenges. Faced with a growing world population, climate change, resource scarcity, and declining biodiversity, the Institute has a major role to play in building solutions and supporting the necessary acceleration of agricultural, food and environmental transitions.

Work environment, missions and activities

You will be welcomed CIRM-CFBP, in the IRHS unit

CIRM-CFBP (Collection Française des Bactéries associées aux Plantes; https://cirm-cfbp.fr) is a biological resource centre that preserves strategic resources for plant health. This collection is part of the EmerSys team of the IRHS unit, Institut de Recherche en Horticulture et Semences (https://irhs.angers-nantes.hub.inrae.fr/).

CIRM-CFBP is currently developing projects on the conservation of microbiota. CIRM-CFBP is a partner in the MICROBE project. The aim of this European project (HORIZON-INFRA-2022-TECH- 01-01; www.microbeproject.eu) is to develop techniques and standards to enable biological resource centres to preserve complex communities of microorganisms (or microbiota) reliably and efficiently. CIRM-CFBP will be responsible for developing and validating techniques for preserving and analysing the quality of microbiota associated with seeds. In order to carry out this project, CIRM-CFBP is recruiting an assistant engineer for a period of approximately 2 years, starting in September 2024.

You will be in charge of:

--> Participate in the design of experiments

The questions explored are centred around determining the best protocols for conserving microbiota; what are the best protocols for multiplying and distributing microbiota; how to effectively conserve and/or prepare syntetic microbial communities.

Participation in the bibliographical study, establishing protocols and testing experiments.

--> Implement the experiments that will take place as part of the MICROBE project at CIRMCFBP, IRHS.

More specifically, this will involve

Microbiology:

- Testing various techniques for preserving microbiota

- Measuring metabolic activities using Biolog® technology.

Molecular biology:

- Carrying out metabarcoding analyses (extracting DNA, preparing libraries and sequencing using the Illumina method) and obtaining data.

--> Take part in the results analysis

Data analysis with R

Formatting of results for discussion and presentation

Communication with team members and consortium members in French and English.
