We conduct research and education in physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, industrial design engineering and didactics in mathematics and science education. We offer unique and world-leading research within the FSCN Research Centre and Sports Tech Research Centre.


The Department of Engineering, Mathematics and Science Education is located at Campus Sundsvall and Östersund. The department conducts subject specific research and teaching.

The teaching of our group covers a broad spectrum of courses for students from a variety of study programs.

Research is focused on selected topics, with an active group for each of them. This position is for a Ph.D. student to join the group in the field of homogenization theory.

The research group that the Ph.D. student will join is part of networks with scientists from the Imperial College London, UK; Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in Ås, Norway; and University of Utah, USA; and, within Sweden, Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) in Linköping; Luleå University of Technology; and Örebro University.

Job description:
Graduate studies comprising at least 80% research and up to 20% of other departmental duties such as teaching and administration.

Requirements and assessment:
To be considered for a PhD position, the applicant must meet the entry requirements for admission to Mid Sweden University´s third-cycle programme. In order to meet the entry requirements the applicant must have a second-cycle degree, or have completed at least 240 ETCS credits of which at least 60 credits should be second-cycle courses. An additional requirement is that 90 credits of the 240 total must consist of courses in mathematics. The applicant is also eligible for consideration if s/he has acquired the equivalent qualification and skills in some other way.

The position requires a good ability to express oneself in writing and orally in English as well as basic IT skills.

Previous experience of working within the mathematical fields of functional analysis, differential equations and homogenization theory is meritorious.

As a person, we want you to have good cooperation skills, good ability to take your own initiatives and to work independently. You need to show motivation and drive to develop your own skills.

Processing:
The preparation of the employment follows the forms specified in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100) and continues in accordance with Mid Sweden University Employment Procedures.

Terms of employment:
The PhD position refers to employment corresponding to four years of fulltime studies and is planned to lead up to a PhD.

A new position as a PhD student is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment may then be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Regulations regarding employment as a PhD student can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), 5 Chapter 1-7 §§.

Starting date: April 1, 2024 or by agreement.

Location: Östersund

Salary: According to the Mid Sweden University salary scale for PhD students.
