Senior scientists “Ramón y Cajal” programme

The National Research Agency (AEI) of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation launched the new 2022 edition of Ramón y Cajal (RyC) Programme Call. It offers 5-year tenure track contract opportunities to attract senior postdoctoral researchers with an outstanding R&D track record to Spanish Research Centres. 


The Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics (CBGP, UPM-INIA/CSIC) offers RyC research positions for motivated scientists in the following areas/research lines:

PLANT ALLERGENS


Contact person: Araceli Diaz Perales
Profile: PhD in Life Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or similar). Experience in molecular biology techniques regarding in-vitro models. Use of cell lines and organoids. Experience in development of mouse models. Experience in the production and use of virus-like particles (VLPs) for their use as therapy agents and biotechnological platforms.

 

 

PLANT INNATE IMMUNITY AND RESISTANCE TO NECROTROPHIC FUNGI


Contact person: Antonio Molina
Project description: Plant immunity mediated by cell wall derived glycans: mechanisms of glycans recognition and activation of disease resistance responses in plants (crops). Biochemical and structural characterization of cell walls of plants and associated microorganisms, including purification of specific cell wall structures (glycans) from fungi/oomycetes (Molecular Associated Molecular Patterns, MAMPs) or plants (Damage Associated Molecular Patterns, DAMPs) that modulate plants (crops) immune responses and disease resistance. Identification and characterization of plant (crops) Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs) perceiving cell wall-derived glycans (MAMPs/DAMPs) and characterization of downstream components triggering disease resistance responses.

 

 

SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY OF PLANTS GENOMES


Contact person: Antonio Molina
Project description: Development of novel knowledge, tools and application of synthetic biology and gene editing (CRISPR-Cas) technologies to engineer plant (crops) genomes for improving plant adaptation to environmental changes, bioengineering plant nutrition and growth responses to biotic interactions.

 

 

ASSOCIATIONS OF SYMBIOTIC BACTERIA WITH PLANTS


Contact person: Jose Manuel Palacios Alberti
Profile: PhD degree in Agricultural Engineering and a strong background in the study of legume endosymbiotic bacteria, with a focus on bacterial metabolism and their cooperative and competitive activities. The candidate should have more than six years of postdoctoral experience, preferably abroad, and relevant publications in this area. The successful candidate will lead research that investigates the metabolic activities and signaling mechanisms of soil-dwelling bacteria and their interactions within the soil and host plants. The goal is to understand how the bacteria influence soil fertility and plant growth to achieve greater soil fertility and plant growth.

 

 

GROWTH AND STRESS RESPONSES DURING EARLY PLANT DEVELOPMENT


Contact person: Luis Oñate-Sánchez
Profile: PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or similar. Broad experience in the field of molecular biology and plant biotechnology, especially with knowledge of genomic, molecular, and cellular approaches in model plants and crops of agronomic interest. The candidate will be integrated in the research line related to the regulation of nutritional stress in plants.

 

 

SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY OF PLANT SIGNALING CIRCUITS


Contact person: Krzysztof Wabnik
Profile: Ph.D. in bioengineering, Biotechnology, or related. Excellent publication score in Q1 journals. Experience with C++ and Phyton programming and knowledge of synthetic biology. A Candidate will build quantitative synthetic regulatory circuits to control dense cell collectives such as microbial consortia and plant organs with chemical signals.

 

 

METAL HOMEOSTASIS IN PLANT-MICROBE INTERACTIONS


Contact person: Manuel González-Guerrero
Profile: PhD in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or related areas. The candidate should have published in the areas of mineral nutrition, protein biochemistry, and/or ion transport. Previous experience with biological nitrogen fixation or transition metal homeostasis will be valued. The selected candidate will be expected to show potential synergies between the research line he/she will pursue and our research group’s interest in metal homeostasis, plant-microbe interactions, and/or biological nitrogen fixation.

 

 

ROOT ORGANOGENESIS, REGENERATION AND ROOTING


Contact person: Miguel Ángel Moreno Risueño
Profile: PhD in Biology with experience in leading research projects in Molecular Biology and Plant Genetics, with specialization in the study of root physiology and development. The candidate should have proven experience in cell biology projects, microscopy techniques, phenotyping techniques, and gene editing in both model plants and crops. Knowledge of crop breeding and planning and development of greenhouse and field studies will also be required.
