Master Thesis - STUDY OF NOVEL PIEZO MEMS MICROMIRRORS (F/M/D)

Befristet, Vollzeit · GRAZ

YOUR FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES
Short description:
In our previous work, we have designed and fabricated novel resonant piezo actuated silicon-based MEMS mirrors with one of the highest optical scan angle per unit watt ever reported. Micromirrors are suitable to be used in a wide variety of different fields like augmented reality, LIDAR and pico-projection applications. Important step forward towards further improvements is the in-depth study of the performance of these MEMS devices.

This Master´s student will:
  • measure mirror deformation during actuation using stroboscopic digital holography.
  • measure the amplitude and phase of the mirror response under different environmental parameters such as pressure, temperature, or humidity.
  • study different mirror geometries and different PZT materials.
  • develop, study, evaluate and compare different complex excitation signals for optimal transduction.
  • participate in the design of the next generation of micromirrors and the developments toward the final pico-projection applications.

YOUR PROFILE
  • Master student in physics, microsystem technologies or similar field
  • Experience with experimental setups
  • Experience with data processing, evaluation and visualization software or language (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
  • Experience with simulation software and/or CAD tools is valuable
  • Autonomy and good reporting skills
  • Good teamwork and
  • Good communication skills in English, German is an advantage

ABOUT US

Silicon Austria Labs (SAL) is a top research center for Electronic Based Systems (EBS). At three locations (Graz, Villach, Linz), SAL is conducting research along the entire EBS value chain in the areas of sensor systems, power electronics, RF (radiofrequency) systems, system integration and embedded systems to develop future-oriented solutions for industrial production, health, energy, mobility, safety and more. SAL brings together key players from industry, science and research and thus valuable expertise and know-how and conducts cooperative, application-oriented research along the value chain. Cooperative projects are co-financed by SAL and enable a fast and unbureaucratic project start. SAL is thus shaping the high-tech location Austria and Europe and developing the future
Innovation is our top priority and so are our employees. We are a family-friendly company and support the compatibility of work and family as much as possible. That is why we have been awarded the Work and Family Certificate until 2023.
