About CBGP
The Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP) is a joint research center founded in 2006 between the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnología Agraria y Alimentaria (INIA).
CBGP (UPM-INIA) has been recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as Centre of Excellence Severo Ochoa (2017-2021), the highest institutional recognition of scientific research excellence in Spain.
The mission of the center is to carry out fundamental and strategic research in plant biology and in microorganisms interacting with plants. CBGP (UPM-INIA) is organized into four scientific areas that comprise 22 consolidated research groups, and 7 junior research groups.
These groups are focused on important biological processes such as plant development, the interaction of plants with the environment, plant and microbial biotechnology, and computational/ system biology and genomics of plants and associated microorganisms.
CBGP’s goal is to contribute to the sustainable development of agricultural, forestry, environmental and food sectors through a knowledge-based Bio-Economy and to transfer to these sectors the research advances and technologies developed at CBGP (UPM-INIA).
CBGP (UPM-INIA) has also a significant educational role and is a reference center for training of PhD students and scientists, Master’s and Bachelor-level students and technicians in plant biotechnology and genomics.
