PhD student position in Blood Cancer Research

Our group at the University Children's Hospital (UKBB) & Department of Biomedicine (DBM), University of Basel studies genetic alterations involved in the development, maintenance and relapse of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We use various models to dissect critical cellular and molecular mechanisms of AML initiation and maintenance (Stavropoulou et al. Cancer Cell, 2016; Lopez et al., Cancer Discovery, 2019, Forte et al., Cell Metabolism, 2020; Leonards et al., Nat Commun 2020, Piqué et al., Blood 2023).

Your position

Our multi-disciplinary approach allows the student to learn and master a multitude of techniques ranging from various cell culture and animal models, histology and high-resolution imaging, viral gene transfer, multi-parameter flow cytometry, in vivo experiments, NGS-applications and bioinformatic data mining.

Your profile

  • Highly motivated with a genuine interest in cancer research. With a curiosity-driven attitude, demonstrating enthusiasm for science and able to work independently but also being a good team player.
  • You hold a Master or an MD degree with some experience in wet lab biology
  • Practical experience with animals (mice) is a plus
  • Some basic skills in bioinformatics (R) are desired.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
