PhD Position in MRI Physics and Methodology

PhD Position in MRI Physics and Methodology

100% position for 4 years, starting date: immediately or as agreed

The research group Magnetic Resonance Physics and Methodology at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Basel is looking for a PhD candidate.

Your position

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), developed in the early 1970ies, offers exceptional soft tissue sensitivity and has powered the astounding progress of medicine in the past fifty years. And it still does. Realizing these potentials by way of research and development is one of the most important challenges in state-of-the-art biomedical engineering. Our research is focused on the fundamentals of magnetic resonance physics, and on the development of dedicated MR methods and on data post-processing methods for applications in the field of biophysical, biochemical, and clinical sciences. For further information, please visit our web page: https://dbe.unibas.ch/en/research/imaging-modelling-diagnosis/magnetic-resonance-physics-methodology/

We are seeking a PhD candidate to join our research team for the development and implementation of novel MRI methods for structural and functional lung MRI from low (0.55 T) to high field (3 T).

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Physics or related area
  • Experience in Matlab/Python and C++
  • Experience in MRI may be advantageous but is not required
  • Strong motivation and commitment to research
  • Fluency in English

We offer you

  • Interesting and challenging job with high degree of self-responsibility in a professional environment with flexible working hours
  • Dedicated MRI research environment and state-of-the-art MRI systems
  • Interdisciplinary working environment
  • The PhD position is fully funded for a maximum of 4 years in line with employment conditions established by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
