Computer Scientist, Mathematician, Physicist or similar (f/m/x)

Would you like to work in an interactive, co-operative and international team? Are you interested in the new and further development of renewable energy technologies, in particular the development of energy system models for decentralised energy systems?

Then the Institute of Networked Energy Systems is an attractive employer for you. Our primary research objective is the development of concepts and technologies that ensure a stable energy system based on weather-dependent and decentralised power generation from renewable energies.

The Institute of Networked Energy Systems employs around 185 people at its Oldenburg and Stuttgart sites and deals with system technology and system analysis issues relating to the intelligent and efficient coupling of the electricity, heating, industry and transport sectors.

The team in the Energy System Technology department focuses on the interaction between system-relevant energy technologies within decentralised networked structures. In the distribution grid in particular, we are striving for new architectures for the energy systems of the future that ensure robust grid operation even under the influence of fluctuating feeders.

In the Energy Management group, we are developing algorithms and technologies to optimise the operation of energy systems.

Transformation strategies for the port energy system are being developed in the Emission-Free Port project. The focus is on low-emission or emission-free technologies and their impact on the reliability of logistics chains. The aim is to develop a decarbonisation guideline for future port developments.

As part of the project:

  • you will be significantly involved in the development and design of our simulation and optimisation environment MTRESS - "Model Template for Residential Energy Supply Systems"
  • develop and validate simulation models of energy system components and entire energy systems based on the sensor data collected
  • couple different modelling platforms from different disciplines
  • conceive and design modelling landscapes for the Institute's Energy Management working group through your work
  • become part of an innovative young team of committed and motivated scientists and project partner and accompany young scientists in their final theses

Your qualifications:

  • you have a university degree in natural sciences (diploma/master's degree university) specialising in computer science, mathematics, physics or other relevant degree programmes
  • in addition, you already have extensive knowledge in the field of software development and programming, preferably in the Python programming language
  • a good command of written and spoken English rounds off your profile
  • ideally, you will have gained initial experience in the field of energy system modelling and/or optimization (Python packages oemof or oemof.solph).
  • a completed doctorate is desirable, but it is also conceivable to do a doctorate in the course of the project

Your benefits:

Look forward to a fulfilling job with an employer who appreciates your commitment and supports your personal and professional development. Our unique infrastructure offers you a working environment in which you have unparalleled scope to develop your creative ideas and accomplish your professional objectives. Our human resources policy places great value on a healthy family and work-life-balance as well as equal opportunities for persons of all genders (f/m/x). Individuals with disabilities will be given preferential consideration in the event their qualifications are equivalent to those of other candidates.
