Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. The research field Computer Vision within the Competence Unit for Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is leading in applied research of highly innovative aspects for scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications as well as data science consulting and solutions for informed decisions based on big, heterogeneous and real-time data under strict IT security and privacy conditions. 

  

Specifically, our Computer Vision team is conducting innovative research to enhance technologies in optical sensing, media forensics, extended reality, and responsible biometrics to support law enforcement agencies, first responders, critical infrastructures, and related industries.



JUNIOR SCIENTIST (M/F/D) FOR BIOMETRICS AND COMPUTER VISION

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • As part of our interdisciplinary team, you will be researching and developing applications integrating data science and computer vision analytics (e.g., creating algorithms that can extract objects or events in visual data or even recognize and verify biometric traits such as fingerprints, facial vein scans, or iris scans).
  • You will use your analytical development skills to design new solution paths or optimisation of (real-time) computer vision-approaches for offline/live data or optical sensors. The solution paths are based on a requirements analysis of our various customers using scientific state-of-the-art technologies.
  • In order to provide fast and efficient solutions, you will work on scalable and platform independent architectures allowing development of innovative systems, algorithms, applications, and system concepts.
  • You will be involved in national and international projects, in which the technologies you are working on will be developed and tested together with end-users.
  • You will provide support in the acquisition of new research and development projects, present your results, and act as a reliable contact person for our industry and project partners.
  • Your innovative solutions are aligned with the requirements of the end users and are characterized by excellence, both technologically and scientifically.
  • Your developed methods prove themselves in practice and are successfully used by our customers.
  • You actively share your knowledge with colleagues, support students in our unit and will be networking with the national and international community.
  • You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and exchange ideas on the latest technological developments.


Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:


  •  A degree in Computer Science with a focus on Computer Vision, Informatics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Applied experience and understanding of Image Processing and Computer Vision approaches (e.g., OpenCV)
  • Skills in Machine Learning frameworks like PyTorch and/or TensorFlow as well as good programming skills in Python; Experience with C++
  • Experience with software testing (pytest would be a plus) and in computer graphics
  • Specific interest in applying Data Science, Data Analytics and Machine Learning to solving real-world problems
  • Ideally knowledge in the following areas:
    • Software tools and technologies like Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Continuous Integration (Gitlab CI/CD), ROS, qt/pyside
    • Embedded/Edge development & platforms (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Nvidia Nano Jetson)
    • Optical Sensors (e.g., RGB, thermal cameras, hyperspectral sensors)
  • Interest in writing research proposals as well as scientific publications
  • Ability to work in a team with initiative, flexibility, and commitment
  • Excellent communication skills (both German and English are required



What to expect: 

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 53.578,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
