SCIENTIST (M/F/D) FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESPONSIVE SENSING & ANALYTICS AND IOT SYSTEMS

7309

As Austria's largest research and technology organisation for applied research, we are dedicated to make substantial contributions to solving the major challenges of our time, climate change and digitisation. To achieve our goals, we rely on our specific research, development and technology competencies, which are the basis of our commitment to excellence in all areas. With our open culture of innovation and our motivated, international teams, we are working to position AIT as Austria's leading research institution at the highest international level and to make a positive contribution to the economy and society.

Our Center for Digital Safety & Security is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Vienna. Our Competence Unit for Cooperative Digital Technologies is leading in applied research on the development of data-based IT solutions for various application scenarios, including the design of new and innovative solutions supporting communities in increasing their resilience and achieving their sustainable development goals (SDG). As a reliable partner of industry and public authorities, we work on digital tools for a sustainable and resilient society based on current research results and in collaboration with end users and our customers. The focus of our applications is on climate change impact assessment and the protection of society during crises and disasters.

Specifically, our Responsive Sensing and Analytics team is developing efficient and scalable algorithms to provide emergency services with the necessary safety-relevant information and analysis results based on sensor and IoT systems on unmanned robots or aircraft (drones) in the event of the release of biological, chemical or radiological hazardous substances (CBRN), for example in the event of disasters.

SCIENTIST (M/F/D) FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF RESPONSIVE SENSING & ANALYTICS AND IOT SYSTEMS

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • As part of our interdisciplinary teams, you develop efficient and scalable algorithms for the entire processing chain - from data acquisition (various sensors e.g. CBRN) in combination with optical 2D / 3D images to analysis and information extraction for data distribution to national and international stakeholders.
  • You work on the further development of digitization concepts, systems, algorithms and methods for efficient real-time applications for 2D and 3D information systems.
  • You use the latest sensor technologies with different modalities and improve the situational awareness of emergency services and decision-makers through analysis and data fusion.
  • You deal with environment modeling, analysis and classification of 3D LiDAR and image data.
  • You explore and evaluate state of the art methods for data fusion, data and signal processing and their applicability in real-time systems.
  • You support ongoing communication with stakeholders and present their topics at events.
  • Your innovative solutions are geared towards user requirements and are characterized by technological and scientific excellence.
  • The methods you develop prove themselves in practice and are successfully used in demonstrations.
  • You continuously expand your network in the national and international community and actively pass on your knowledge internally to colleagues and students.
  • You publish your results at scientific conferences and journals.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Completed university degree, preferably in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics or similar
  • Knowledge in at least one area: data analytics, machine learning, design of complex algorithms
  • Knowledge of optical 3D sensors (e.g. laser scanners, time of flight) and/or data fusion methods (e.g. Bayesian inference, Dempster Shafer Evidence Theory, fuzzy inference systems) is an advantage
  • Interest in computer vision and image processing (deep learning frameworks)  as well as Programming skills in Python; Matlab or C++ is a plus
  • Special interest in applied research and solving practical problems
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility and commitment
  • Very good knowledge of German; written and spoken English

What to expect:

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 57.890,--.
