Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for a PhD Thesis. The research field Computer Vision within the Competence Unit for Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is leading in applied research of highly innovative aspects for scalable Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications as well as data science consulting and solutions for informed decisions based on big, heterogeneous and real-time data under strict IT security and privacy conditions.



PHD THESIS "AI-BASED MANIPULATION DETECTION IN IMAGES AND VIDEOS"

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

  • You will deal intensively with AI based manipulation detection using cutting edge DeepLearning technology. Your work will include the development of forensic AI methods to identify manipulated images such as AI generated pictures, morphed faces and local manipulations.
  • You will be responsible for developing and training AI models (using frameworks such as Tensorflow and PyTorch) and actively collect and synthesize datasets tailored to address and accurately represent the specific problem at hand.
  • You will engage in independent scientific planning, execution and evaluation of studies, scientific preparation of results and summaries for documentation and presentation.
  • Your contributions will enhance our international AI-based computer vision projects for safety and security, with your methods proven effective and utilised by our clients.
  • Additionally, you'll engage in workshops, conferences, and scientific publications, collaborating with diverse teams of engineers, scientists, and industrial partners to expand your professional network and expertise.


Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

  • Master’s studies in the field of computer vision, informatics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Very good knowledge and understanding of image processing, computer vision and machine learning approaches
  • Proficient in Python programming
  • Passion for designing scientific studies to tackle real-world challenges
  • Ideally knowledge in the following areas:
    • Software tools and technologies like Git, Docker, Kubernetes, Continuous Integration (Gitlab CI/CD), ROS
    • Optical Sensors (e.g., RGB, thermal cameras)
  • Interest in reading and writing scientific publications and addressing practical questions from stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team with initiative, flexibility, and commitment
  • Excellent communication skills (both German and English are required)


 Details:

  • Duration of the PhD project: 3 years
  • Start date: ideally as soon as possible – However, there is some flexibility concerning the start-date



What to expect: 

The gross annual salary for a PhD position on a part-time basis (30 hours/week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 37.577,40. In addition to numerous events, seminars and networking opportunities, there will be additional company benefits.
